Students make a beeline for Science Expres at Kasaragod

The ‘Science Express’, an innovative mobile exhibition mounted on a 16-AC coach train showcasing myriads of fascinating pieces to foster scientific temper among students and youth, began its four-day camp at the Kasaragod railway station here on Thursday.
Hundreds of students accompanied by their teachers streamed into Platform No. 3 to capture the excitement of the rare opportunity to learn about the science exhibits at the special train. The ‘Science Express Biodiversity Special’ (SEBS) reached here straight from Shoranur at the end of the three-day halt at the railway station on Wednesday.
The exhibition in the iconic train, a unique collaborative initiative of the Department of Science & Technology and Union Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change was inaugurated by municipal Chairman T.E. Abdulla in the presence of a group of students and senior railway officials.
The state-of-the-art exhibition aboard the SEBS aims to create awareness on India’s rich and varied biodiversity, climatic changes, and similar phenomenon.
Of the 16 coaches of the SEBS train, eight coaches are solely dedicated to showcasing biodiversity spread across the nation’s bio-geographical zones like Trans-Himalaya and Himalaya, the Gangetic Plain, the North-East region, the Western Ghats, the Indian deserts, the semi-arid zone, the Deccan Peninsula, and the Coasts and the islands.
The remaining coaches reflect themes like climate change, biodiversity and water and sustainable environment, and energy conservation. A special zone for kids has also been created in a coach with fun-filled activities, games and puzzles in science, mathematics and environment.
